This product is made in the UK. It coats hemp thread easily and provides the needed tackiness. It is an adhesive wax rather than a lubricating wax. A waxed thread can be used under ferrules and mounts to secure them. Pipers use it on the first layer of hemping their joints to attach the thread to the pin. It is also excellent for tying hemp bridles on can drone reeds. The wax helps plain hemp grip the reed and also is impervious to moisture as you play.

A small piece of wax should be broken off and placed in a piece of leather sizex approximately 10 x 5 cm and folded in half. Use a flames to gently warm the wax to soften, and then run the hemp through the wax between the sides of leather. Pick out any thread ends that stay in the wax to make it last longer. [Caution: the wax will burn if over heated and can drip and burn the skin when hot.]

[From Ted Anderson, a legendary wax maker: Cobbler's wax is a misnomer. I call it shoemakers’ wax. Cobblers (repair persons) don’t use it. Shoemakers, harness makers, pipe-bag makers, pipers and reed makers all use it, as well as fishing fly tiers.]

A NOTE TO CUSTOMERS IN THE USA

Due to recent trade decisions of the current US administration, we are suspending all orders and shipping to the USA for the time being. Tariffs of 35% on all products coming from Canada make prices unreasonable for you and shipping difficult, time consuming, and ultimately unprofitable for us. We'll keep our eye on things and get back to supplying our friends and customers in the USA as soon as we are able.
